Natural Human Goodness
In Lord Of The Flies, Simon is natural human goodness. Simon in the book is never really in an argument with anybody, he did not take part in the killing of the sow and is never in the way of anybody's problems.
He helped Ralph build the forts and gave Piggy a piece of meat when nobody else would.
During the end of the story everybody is freaking out and going crazy, but Simon keeps calm and that is why Simon is natural human goodness. Not just because he kept calm but he did not get in the way and helped people out. I think Golding put Simon in the book because he wanted to show that natural human goodness was possible even in chaos.
The book is pretty scary and really messes with your mind so Simon was needed to remind you that there is always natural human goodness even when things are really bad.
"We use his specs," said Simon, smearing a black cheek with his forearm. " He helped that way."
